Philippians 4:13 “I can do all this through him who gives me strength”.
The church really is the engine that drives all the ministries at Brazos Abiertos. Our values, conviction and passion is expressed via the activities we provide.
The community is made up of young people mostly between the ages of 18 and 25. The majority of the young people had their children at a young age, many of them between the ages of 13 and 16. A lot of them have formed damaged personalities due to their circle of family and friends. ‘Mistreatment’, ‘dysfunctional homes’ and ‘divorce’ are words that are more common than ‘happiness’ and ‘enjoyment’. Dark customs that stem from Andean culture are very common amongst them, even in the Christians. This gives us all the more reason to train them and teach them who God is and that God has unconditional love for them. We try to reveal to them the plan God has planned for them by using the important foundations God has shown us:
. Look after everything God has given us
. Take care of one another
. Speak with love and respect
. The Bible is the Word of God
. I can do it!!
On Sundays at 4pm we have our family service. There is a Sunday school for the children and afterwards we take some time to relate to one another as members of God’s family through Jesus Christ. During the week there are Bible and intercession training in order to help inculcate in them an active faith.
Generally speaking most of them do not have many social opportunities. A large number of them arrived there in that community because they were rejected from their homes and this in turn has created a low academic and cultural level in the young people of the local community. Hardly any of them have finished primary school and this prevents them from getting good jobs. Emotionally speaking they have low self-esteem and almost all of them come from dysfunctional homes where they have been mistreated.
