Volunteer Matthijs

I am Matthijs, 20 years old, and I helped as a volunteer at Brazos Abiertos. I was literally welcomed with open arms; they came to pick me up from the airport at 1:00 AM, which was very nice! I helped build the new church building, walked with the children at the school, played soccer with a whole group, and just had a really great time! Willem and Erna’s love for the neighborhood, the children, and the volunteers is infectious! Extremely happy with my time at Brazos Abiertos; it was a wonderful time with many new experiences, new friends, and yet another new adventure!

When we went to visit a mother, we found her very burdened by the circumstances. We were able to listen to her and comfort her. We also explained how sin, distances us from God. But since he loves us, he made a perfect sacrifice by sending Jesus to die in our place, so that we are not only God's creation but children. And as children he wants to help us carry our burdens, we can approach him in prayer and listen to him for his word. She understood that she needed to accept the gift of salvation that God provided for her and we prayed for her. She also prayed for forgiveness for her sins and invited Jesus into her heart. It was very nice to hear her praying and we saw how she was very joyful after her prayers.

The day of the evangelization we went out with my partner Grace to the neighborhood of Nueva Victoria by Cieneguilla. Announcing the word of God, the gospel of salvation knocking on doors speaking to people who were on the street. And for me in particular it fills me with great satisfaction, preaching and spreading the word of God and evangelizing. I love it a lot and, well, as a result of that evangelization we win souls for Christ, that people gave themselves to God. And that day fills me with great joy and happiness. Because they are converting to Christ and as the word of God says, go and preach to all nations. And that's what we did that day with my partner Grace.
